HMS Gloucester's High Seas Firing October 2004. As you can see, it did not go well (wait till about 90 secs in). Contrary to what you might think, the boost motor worked just fine. You can see it clearly working and burning exactly as it is supposed to, right there on the port waist. What failed was either the accelerometer system or the exloding bolts which it operates. The bolts are designed to fire a smidgen after two seconds from receiving the firing impulse, separating the boost motor from the missile body after ramjet system kicks in. By this time the missile should be doing over mach 2 and be well away from the launch platform. It is speculation to assume which failed as the missile is in the deep blue. The MoD will have you believe there was some fault with the boost motor which sat there burning and not shoving the missile. Perhaps so but the MoD's also decided a large, slow cargo aircraft did not need a foam system for it's engines in a combat zone and a dozen people got killed. Fortunately for the good ship Gloucester, the main body of the missile just sneaked over the guardrails and fell into the water, otherwise they might well have been deep in it as the large high explosive booster could have got on very well with many gallons of kerosene and the IPN in the missile. You may also note towards the end of the clip the presence of another missile on the launcher which happily is a drill missile. If it were a war shot, I don't think there'd have been a dry pair of undercracks on board. And all this info is easily deduced and in the public domain, for the un-informed, blindly patriotic daily mail readers among us. Hell, they were even sold to Argentina! I will also delete and block those who are abusive and racist.

WONG: An appeal against execution by firing squad for three militants has been rejected by an Indonesian court. The three were convicted for bombings that claimed more than two hundred lives in Bali six years ago. STORY: The three are being held in a maximum security prison in central Java while the state makes preparations for their execution. Defense lawyers for the three bombers filed an appeal against authorities using a firing squad. The lawyers say the three would prefer to be executed by beheading. [Ahmad Michdan, Defense Lawyer]: "We have said that when there is an option for execution, that method of execution is cruel. The execution is against all fundamental laws of the country." [Monamed Mahfud, Chief Judge]: "Our judgment is to reject the appeal by the appellants in terms of all their facts and arguments." The lawyers are planning to take the appeal to the international community and hope to get support from groups like Amnesty International. There are concerns the execution could add to militant anger in the predominantly Muslim country. But several analysts say most Indonesians have little sympathy for the bombers.

Cell Phone Guns Discovered. Hitting the 5, 6, 7 and 8 buttons on the phone gun fires four .22-caliber rounds in quick succession. LONDON, Dec. 6 At first sight it looks like a regular cell phone same size, same shape, same overall appearance. But beneath the digital face lies a .22-caliber pistol a phone gun capable of firing four rounds in quick succession with a touch of the otherwise standard keypad.
