He fought a brave battle with cancer and died peacefully at home in Maine with his wife Jean at his side. His strength, dignity, and grace in the face of the daunting challenges of this disease were an inspiration to all who knew him. LOS ANGELES (Reuters) Singer-songwriter Dan Fogelberg, famed for the soaring vocals and elegant instrumentation of tunes such as "Longer" and "A Love Like This," died on Sunday, three years after being diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. He was 56. More Info: http://www.pjstar.com/php/index.php?/news/fogelberg/ Artist: Dan Fogelberg Album: Dan Fogelberg Greatest Hits 1982 Song: Same Old Lang Syne Met my old lover in the grocery store The snow was falling christmas eve I stole behind her in the frozen foods And I touched her on the sleeve She didnt recognize the face at first But then her eyes flew open wide She went to hug me and she spilled her purse And we laughed until we cried. We took her groceries to the checkout stand The food was totalled up and bagged We stood there lost in our embarrassment As the conversation dragged. We went to have ourselves a drink or two But couldnt find an open bar We bought a six-pack at the liquor store And we drank it in her car. We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how. She said shed married her an architect Who kept her warm and safe and dry She would have liked to say she loved the man But she didnt like to lie. I said the years had been a friend to her And that her eyes were still as blue But in those eyes I wasnt sure if I saw Doubt or gratitude. She said she saw me in the record stores And that I must be doing well I said the audience was heavenly But the traveling was hell. We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to now And tried to reach beyond the emptiness But neither one knew how. We drank a toast to innocence We drank a toast to time Reliving in our eloquence Another auld lang syne... The beer was empty and our tongues were tired And running out of things to say She gave a kiss to me as I got out And I watched her drive away. Just for a moment I was back at school And felt that old familiar pain And as I turned to make my way back home The snow turned into rain -- *

Dedicated to Jean Fogelberg Studio version of Forefathers from The Wild Places CD - 1990. Timothy B. Schmit, David Crosby and Russ Kunkel were a few of the notables on the CD This was a collaborative effort with LessonsLearned85 who also made the request for the video. Thanks Kevin. Photographs are from "our forefathers", the early immigrants. It seems fitting to post this great Dan tune on this Labor Day Holiday weekend in tribute to the brave men and women who came to North America in pursuit of a better life and happiness. There are 2 photographs in the video that were taken by Dan who was an avid photographer :) The last pic is Designed by Jean Fogelberg exclusively for the Prostate Cancer Foundation. You can purchase your pin at prostatecancerfoundation.org. Information about the pin is also at http://www.danfogelberg.com/news.html The symbolism of the design: ~ The Scottish sword - Dan was half Scots-Irish (as many of you know, his mother was born in Scotland); he fought a valiant battle against cancer; and he was my knight in shining armor (and apparently, many of you felt the same way). ~ The Fleur-de-lis (flower of life) was used in Scottish heraldry, and is said to symbolize many things, but among them: purity, light, life, and hope. ~ The guitar is a rendering of one of Dan's favorite Stratocasters, used on stage over many years. ~ Deep forest green and gold were Dan's favorite color combination. Forefathers They came from Scandinavia, the land of midnight sun And crossed the North Atlantic when this century was young They'd heard that in America every man was free To live the way he chose to live and be who he could be Some of them were farmers there and tilled the frozen soil But all they got was poverty for all their earnest toil They say one was a sailor who sailed the wide world round Made home port, got drunk one night, walked off the pier and drowned My mother was of Scottish blood, it's there that she was born They brought her to America in 1924 They left behind the highlands and the heather-covered hills And came to find America with broad expectant dreams and iron wills My granddad worked the steel mills of central Illinois His daughter was his jewel, his son was just his boy For thirty years he worked the mills and stoked the coke-fed fires And looked toward the day when he'd at last turn 65 and could retire (Chorus) And the sons become the fathers and their daughters will be wives As the torch is passed from hand to hand And we struggle through our lives Though the generations wander, the lineage survives And all of us, from dust to dust, we all become forefathers by and by The woman and the man were wed just after the war And they settled in this river town and three fine sons she bore One became a lawyer and one fine pictures drew And one became this lonely soul who sits here now And sings this song to you (Chorus) By and By By and By

If I could ever say it right And reach your hostage heart Despite the doubts you harbor Then you might Come to believe in me. The life I lead is not the kind That gives a woman peace of mind I only hope someday youll find That you can believe in me. Those other loves that Came before Mean nothing to me anymore But you can never be quite sure And will not believe in me. Too many hearts have been broken Failing to trust what they feel But trust isnt something Thats spoken And loves never wrong When its real. If I could only do one thing Then I would try to write and sing A song that ends your questioning And makes you believe in me. Too many hearts have been broken Failing to trust what they feel But trust isnt something Thats spoken And loves never wrong When its real. If I could only do one thing Then I would try to write and sing A song that ends your questioning And makes you believe in me Oh, you can believe in me.

Artist: Dan Fogelberg Album: Dan Fogelberg Greatest Hits 1982 Song: Leader Of The Band An only child alone and wild A cab'net maker's son His hands were meant for diff'rent work And his heart was known to none He left his home and went his lone and solitary way And he gave to me a gift I know I never can repay A quiet man of music Denied a simpler fate He tried to be a soldier once But his music wouldn't wait He earned his love thru' discipline A thund'ring velvet hand His gentle means of sculpting souls Took me years to understand The leader of the band Is tired and his eyes are growing old But his blood runs thru' my instrument And his song is in my soul My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man I'm just a living legacy To the leader of the band My brother's lives were diff'rent For they heard another call One went to Chicago and the other to St. Paul And I'm in Colorado When I'm not in some hotel Living out this life I've chose And come to know so well I thank you for the music And your stories of the road I thank you for the freedom When it came my time to go I thank you for the kindness And the times when you got tough And papa I don't think I said "I love you" near enough The leader of the band Is tired and his eyes are growing old But his blood runs thru' my instrument And his song is in my soul My life has been a poor attempt to imitate the man I'm just a living legacy To the leader of the band I am the living legacy To the leader of the band *
