adamAdam & Paul (2004)While shooting this movie, the director also had to keep shooting commercial video clips, his regular money job, because of the very low film budget. The two lead actors, Tom Murphy who plays Paul (the short one) and Mark O'Halloran who plays Adam (the tall one), were told by the local Garda ( Irish Police) to leave the set as the Garda thought they were real junkies looking to steal items from the set. The film's unit was tiny - one truck for camera, props and make-up and one minivan for the cast and crew. It takes some work to make anyone feel sorry for junkies but 'Adam and Paul' is a film that succeeds beyond any expectation. Yes, it shows the appalling lives of two junkies who have clearly been 'down so long' they have pretty much lost contact with reality, but it also makes you laugh, for even in their lives there is sometimes something amusing. It's grim and the words 'with hilarious consequences' are not going to appear in my review, but the film does show there is still some humanity in them, particularly in the scenes with their pal. Yes, their condition makes them dislikeable people who are always on the look out for money to steal and people to scam from, but we are asked to appreciate that there is a glimmer of hope: no matter how dim. A must see film, but make sure you're in an optimistic frame of mind before you go in, because 'Adam and Paul' will take its toll on the sunniest disposition.

[The Uncut, Unrated Version] NOTES: -Unlike the later "GTA: Berks County," this video didn't pass the censors at school, and I had to trim some meaningless seconds from the project. This is the original, full version (the profanity was always beeped out... sounds funnier). -Mike accidentally spits chocolatey goodness onto the camera lens after discovering "the sugary potential" that Pudding had inside. -People think that when Alex (the junkie) says "...three times a day..." instead of holding up three fingers, he flips the bird. People also claim that when he spits up, he creates a smiley face on his shoulder. People have asked me "How did you do that?" ...But what can I say? It's a sign, like the Sacred Grilled Cheese. - Before Nick vomits (when Pudding meets White Pudding), Ian accidentally walks into the frame. -Oreo getting shot was actually the work of a firecracker (it's funny that Nick then tells White Pudding to send a message before killing her). -Nick hit Pudding with the stick on the first take. -In the beginning of the Jello interview, we couldn't hear Ian's voice, so I dubbed-over (and accidentally called the guest "Jerry Jello")... When Ian can be heard at the climax of the interview, he spouts "Oh, that's right, Mr. Giraffe- Lick all the marmalade off!" This is a quote by Stewie Griffin from "Family Guy." -Pudding overdosed on "Smarties"... R.I.P. -The scrolling credits have the "Strong Bad Techno" playing in the background (Nick also imitates Strong Bad several times in the movie)... I couldn't tell you why the end credits are scrolling backwards...

This baroque nightmare of a south-of-the-border mystery is considered to be one of the great movies of Orson Welles, who both directed and starred in it. On honeymoon with his new bride, Susan (Janet Leigh), Mexican-born policeman Mike Vargas (Charlton Heston) agrees to investigate a bomb explosion. In so doing, he incurs the wrath of local police chief Hank Quinlan (Welles), a corrupt, bullying behemoth with a perfect arrest record. Vargas suspects that Quinlan has planted evidence to win his past convictions, and he isn't about to let the suspect in the current case be railroaded. Quinlan, whose obsession with his own brand of justice is motivated by the long-ago murder of his wife, is equally determined to get Vargas out of his hair, and he makes a deal with local crime boss Uncle Joe Grandi (Akim Tamiroff) to frame Susan on a drug rap, leading to one of the movie's many truly harrowing sequences. Touch of Evil dissects the nature of good and evil in a hallucinatory, nightmarish ambience, helped by the shadow-laden cinematography of Russell Metty and by the cast, which, along with Tamiroff and Welles includes Charlton Heston as a Mexican; Marlene Dietrich, in a brunette wig, as a brittle madam who delivers the movie's unforgettable closing words; Mercedes McCambridge as a junkie; and Dennis Weaver as a tremulous motel clerk. Touch of Evil has been released with four different running times -- 95 minutes for the 1958 original, which was taken away from Welles and brutally cut by the studio; 108 minutes and 114 minutes in later versions; and 111 minutes in the 1998 restoration. Based on a 58-page memo written by Welles after he was barred from the editing room during the film's original post-production, this restoration, among numerous other changes, removed the opening titles and Henry Mancini's music from the opening crane shot, which in either version ranks as one of the most remarkably extended long takes in movie history. A must see film, but make sure you're in an optimistic frame of mind before you go in, because 'Adam and Paul' will take its toll on the sunniest disposition

Okay, long description below, but I'd love your help: I've got a couple of ideas floating around in my head for a black-and-white stop motion music video for Regina Spektor's "Apres Moi," and since I have zero experience with cameras and got a delovely Nikon D-40 for Christmas, I thought hey, what the hell. So not as easy as I expected. In this vid, I used "continuous" mode, which left it partially unfocused, but continuous is faster than any other modes for stop-motion. (First question: what is the best mode?). I've got a MacBook Pro and used iMovie and iPhoto for editing, where I stumbled over another problem: I took off the Ken Burns effect and switched it to 0.03 frames per second, which makes my dad look like a chipmunk on speed. When I tried to raise up one or two frames (0.04 - 0.14) the frames went on for ages. I absolutely could not find a medium. I think that part of my problem is the tutorial that I used: http://www.photojojo.com/content/tutorials/stop-motion-digital-camera/ It's a great tutorial, but I think it's only for stop-motion using inanimate objects. Anyone know of any people-stop-motion tutorials? Because that's what I'm planning to use for the ultimate product. Help? Anyone? Bueller?

Father and Son~Cat Stevens cover father and Son" is a popular song written and originally performed by British singer Cat Stevens on his 1970 album Tea for the Tillerman. The song, whose music is soft but with a lilting dynamicism, frames an exchange between a father not understanding a son's desire to break away and shape a new life, and the son who cannot really explain himself but knows what he must do; to echo this Stevens sings in a deeper register for the Father parts, whilst using a higher, more emotive one for the son parts. Stevens originally wrote it as part of a proposed musical project with actor Nigel Hawthorn called Revolussia, that was set during the Russian Revolution; the song was about a boy who wanted to join the revolution against the wishes of his father. The musical project faded away but "Father and Son" remained, now in a more general context that reflected not just the societal conflict of Stevens' time, but also captured the impulses of older and younger generations in general. Although not released as a single, "Father and Son" received substantial airplay on progressive rock and album-oriented rock radio formats, and played a key role in establishing Stevens as a new voice worthy of attention. A year later in 1971 it was put on the B-side of Stevens' single "Moonshadow". Sandie Shaw's version of the song, released in 1972, became her twenty-ninth and final single on the Pye Records label, which had given her a highly successful string of hits in the 1960s, making her the most successful British female singer of that decade. On the 1974 album "Junkie and the Juicehead Minus Me", Johnny Cash released a slightly changed version of the song with his stepdaughter, Rosie Nix Adams, with the title "Father and Daughter", with aptly changed lyrics. In 1995, the Irish boy band Boyzone did a rendition of the song, and it reached #2 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2001 the producers of the film Moulin Rouge! wanted to use "Father and Son" underneath the opening scene, but Stevens, now the devout Muslim Yusuf Islam, refused on religious grounds given the somewhat racy nature of the film. [1] 2003 saw Johnny Cash revisit the original song with Fiona Apple accompanying during the 'son' verses on disc 3 of the "Unearthed_(album)" boxed set. The American rock band The Flaming Lips released a song titled "Fight Test" on their 2002 album Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots. "Fight Test" is musically very similar to "Father and Son," and The Flaming Lips have agreed to pay royalties to Stevens/Islam for "Fight Test" following a relatively uncontentious settlement. The Flaming Lips' frontman, Wayne Coyne, claims that he was unaware of the songs' similarities until producer Dave Fridmann pointed them out. "Father and Son" was then covered by Irish singer Ronan Keating, who had been a member of Boyzone, on his greatest hits compilation 10 Years of Hits (2004). Keating's version was released as a single in the fourth quarter of 2004 and featured re-recorded vocals by Stevens/Islam. Keating credits the song for introducing him to music and for sparking his interest in song writing. "Father and Son" debuted at number two on UK Singles Chart and became Keating's eleventh top ten single. Keating donated all the profits from the single's release to the Band Aid Trust, as Band Aid 20's rendition of "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was the current number one. Keating said that he was very happy to be number two in the charts below Band Aid. The music video for the release showed Keating singing while walking amongst hundreds of stantions holding father-and-son portraits of all types, then joined midway by Stevens/Islam singing the 'Father' parts. In 2006, Rod Stewart included his take on "Father and Son" on his "rock standards" album Still the Same... Great Rock Classics of our Time.

So charming and witty! These two are just like Keith Richards and Marianne Faithful. Check out these poor misunderstood rebels, living life on their own terms. Don't you love how charismatic drug addicts are, just like in the movies!? John Travolta certainly nailed it in Pulp Fiction, didn't he? Or how about Val Kilmer in Salton Sea? these actors sure captured the charismatic wit and style of drug life. Not shown are the open sores along the spine of the woman's emaciated frame. Both of these people were aware I was recording them. This was shot outside the door of my workplace near Hastings and Main in Vancouver's East End. And scenes like this happen CONSTANTLY. If you were to see what goes on here in a movie, you would never belive this place could actually happen. People inject drugs on the sidewalk for everyone to see. Others smoke crack while jaywalking directly in front of moving cop cars. The alleyways are open air drug supermarkets where no one even pretends to hide what they're doing. Much of this takes place less than a block from Vancouver's central police station. Though you may not believe me, I did not record or post this with any intent on judging these two individuals. My only motivation is to show the true face of drug addiction. Heroin chic? A junkie often looks more scab than skin, their clothes covered in puke or feces. This is drug reality.
