Besides my mother, Chonda Pierce is my hero. Chonda Pierce is so much more than just one of the most hilarious people on the planet, she isn't just a wonderful singer and songwriter, a daughter, sister, wife and mother, she is a walking inspiration, a walking testimony. A few years back I had turned my back on God, I was doing drugs, achohal, stealing, the whole nine yards. My mother was really into the gaither tapes and I actually still liked them too. I guess there was a part of me that never forgot about God and watching the tapes made me feel closer to God, even if it was just for a moment. We saw Chonda on one of the tapes and loved her, so we decided to look into her more. We bought one of her books and even had it autographed, and after reading about her life story, I was inspired to give God another try. She may never know it until we get to heaven, but in a way, it's like God brought Chonda in my life to encourage me and to draw me to the Lord. Anyway, here she talks about the deaths of her two sisters, the absense of her earthly father, and the hope her heavenly father gave her.

In 1974, when Charise was born, a childhood free of major health problems is not what life had in store for her. At the age of nine she was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis. By the time Charise became an adult, she'd had several surgeries, a temporary ostomy bag, and ultimately had her large intestines removed entirely; after which she developed Crohn's disease. Arthritis has left her in need of knee replacements and a lifetime of damage to her skin from the sun has lead to re-occurring skin cancers. Charise, being blessed with a mature and supportive family had incredible support throughout her developmental years. They are what kept her grounded when the social pains far outweighed her physical ills. There was no shortage of bullies and teasers in Charise's life. Even as an adult she can't escape the verbal abuse of strangers with statements like "what are you?". In "Charise: A Portrait of an African American with Albinism", Charise shares with us, her pains and her joys. ANCHOR: Most Asian share markets crawled higher today, although regional automakers remain under pressure as global demand tumbles. Japan's Honda Motor fell amid reports it will scale down its overseas expansion plans in the U.S., India and Turkey. Hyundai Motors says it will cut output at most overseas factories, hit by plunging U.S. and global sales. Industry-wide U.S. sales in November fell for the 13th straight month to a 26-year low. On the plus side, shares of Australian flag carrier Qantas jumped after the government left the doors open to a possible $5.9 billion merger with British Airways. BA is already in merger talks with Spain's Iberia, and adding Qantas would create the world's biggest airline. Still, economic fundamentals in the region remain weak, with Australian growth at its slowest pace in eight years. Ahead of meetings of both the European Central Bank and Bank of England, the euro and sterling eased on expectations of hefty rate cuts.

WONG: Asia stock markets retreated for a third straight day today as more investors locked in profits on the year-end rally and prepared to close their books ignoring a rate cut by China. The People's Bank of China eased interest rates by a quarter of a percentage point on Monday night. But Beijing's fifth rate cut since September failed to boost markets: Shanghai and Hong Kong markets fell sharply by mid-day as the cut, which was smaller than expected. The South Korean won and other regional currencies slipped, surrendering some of their gains posted this month as foreign investors have gradually warmed up to investing in riskier assets. Oil extended sharp fall to drop further below 40 dollars a barrel, weakened anew by growing signs of deteriorating world oil demand. Trading was limited, with Japanese financial markets closed for a national holiday and many market players away from their desks before Christmas and other year-end holidays.
