This is a excellent rendition by S.P.B. When I made this video montage, the duration was more than 11 minutes. Since YouTube allows only 10 minutes of video, I had to clip background music. You might make out abrupt gaps in the music. Sorry for this trade-off. If interested in having this song, please let me know, will be happy in mailing it to you. This video is based on Srimad Bhagwath Puran: "STORY OF SATI". Daksha,Parvati's father has ill-feelings towards Shiva and ridicules him :"He lives in filthy places like crematoriums and his companions are the ghosts and demons. He ornaments his body with a garland of skulls and bones. Therefore only in name is he Siva, or auspicious; actually, he is the most mad and inauspicious creature." Daksha performs sacrificial fire ceremony without inviting Lord Shiva and Parvati.Parvati insists on joining sacrificial festival at her fathers palace despite the reluctance of Lord Shiva. Parvati proceeds to the ceremony alone. Present in the arena of sacrifice, Sati saw that there were no oblations for her husband, Lord Siva. Next she realized that not only had her father failed to invite Lord Siva, but when he saw Lord Siva's exalted wife, Daksa did not receive her either. She was very angry and sorrowful. She burns herself with the fire of Yoga!!!Lord Shiva's fury knew no bounds when he learnt about the fate of Parvati. The entire Universe trembled with Lord Shiva's Anger. Thus Lord Siva, being extremely angry, pressed his lips with his teeth and immediately snatched from his head a strand of hair which blazed like electricity or fire. He stood up at once, laughing like a madman, and dashed the hair to the ground. A fearful black demon "Virabhadra",as high as the sky and as bright as three suns combined was thereby created, his teeth very fearful and the hairs on his head like burning fire. He had thousands of arms, equipped with various weapons, and he was garlanded with the heads of men. He sent "Virabhadra" ,who wrecks Daksha's scarificial ceremony and beheads him. Bramha and other gods proceed to Kailash and appease Lord Shiva. Lord shiva ,the ocean of mercy, was pleased and he said "My dear father, Brahma, I do not mind the offenses created by the demigods. Because these demigods are childish and less intelligent, I do not take a serious view of their offenses, and I have punished them only in order to right them.Since the head of Daksa has already been burned to ashes, he will have the head of a goat." When the animal's head was fixed on the body of King Daksa, Daksa was immediately brought to consciousness, and as he awakened from sleep, the King saw Lord Shiva standing before him.At that time, when Daksa saw Lord Siva, who rides upon a bull, his heart, which was polluted by envy of Lord Siva, was immediately cleansed, just as the water in a lake is cleansed by autumn rains. Daksha repented for his misdeeds and begged for forgiveness to the Almighty Shiva. The sacrificial ceremony was completed with the blessings of Shiva and Sri Hari.

"Shiva Darsan" is as much a video poem, as it is an experimental ethnographic documentary on Hinduism, holy men, spirituality and transcendence. Shiva is the Hindu lord of procreation and death. Darsan is sacred perception. Darsan is as much to see, as it is to be seen by that of the worshipper and the deity, holy person or sacred place. It is as much the spiritual that yields to be grasped, known, touched and experienced, as it is the worshipper who is there to receive the divine. This piece is also a personal reflection on the Shivaratri Festival at Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal, the birthday celebration of Shiva at one of his most important pilgrimage sites in Asia and at the most sacred of Nepalese shrines. It is here that Shiva's birthday celebration is most spectacular with tens of thousands of Hindu pilgrims from throughout India and Nepal in attendance annually. Prior to entering Pashupatinath Temple, the pilgrims ritually purify themselves in the sacred Bagmati River. On the shores of the river, Brahman priests perform cremation ceremonies with the deceased's family members. While devotees of Shiva completely covered in cremation ash perform puja, or ritualized offerings to their lord. "Shiva Darsan" is the first tape produced for "In Celebration of Life.... In Celebration of Death...", a series of experimental ethnographic tapes tapes shot during my fourteen month sabbatical abroad in Asia and the Mid-East while in intensive research and videotape production. This series reveals the religious, cultural and philosophical beliefs of indigenous people from various cultures by exploring their rituals, dance, music and daily activities that revolve around life and death. From birth to death, special rites and celebrations mark the important events of one's existence, assuring a symbiosis of body and soul with the divine. This deep relationship between the people and their gods are reaffirmed through daily activity. At times, the person symbolically becomes god, strengthening their own sense of sacredness and self-respect.
