This segment was taped in approximately 1985. To put this into context, Johnny had just moved to a house in Malibu after his divorce from Joanna, his third wife. Of the 100 videos that I've put up, this site has gotten the most comments and the most "hits"! Let me explain why. Johnny was great at doing "put-ons", and doing it well, so that the next morning people would be at work around the water cooler saying, "Did you watch Carson last night? Did you see what he did? Was it real?" Johnny's genius lives on, because people are STILL saying the same things on the Internet! On this clip, Johnny smoothly started out with a premise that sounded real. But as the routine went on, people gradually picked up that it was another clever put-on that was done by actors. There were subtile hints as the routine went on: 1. Johnny usually didn't give away prizes on his show, so that was suspect. And Johnny was a private man, he didn't invite strangers to his house on the spur of the moment. 2. Recognizing an audience member for being a certain number of guest is pointless in itself -- you can expect that there will be some sort of comedy pay-off. 3. The "actors" did their jobs very well -- but, an average audience member is not usally that sharp or articulate on the spot as these "audience members" were, so you knew something was up. 4. When they got into the crazy dialogue about being raised by racoons and such, you knew this was a routine. 5. Johnny would never actually get rude with an audience member on the air and throw them out, that was all shtick. Jay, Dave and Conan all do put-ons -- but Johnny was very "cool" about it, he'd have you "hung" for a little while, he didn't force the issue into your face like other hosts might do. Angus took off his guitar, handed it to a roadie and lowered himself under the gaurd rail to get closer to the guy. When he was within reach, Angus firmly tweaked the guy's nose and dished out some verbal venom before the offender was led out by security. In the Illinois State Senate, Barack Obama voted against the "Born-Alive Infants Protection Act" (BAIPA) bill twice in committee and once on the Senate floor. The measure was very similar to the federal BAIPA, which President Bush signed into law in 2002. New documents just obtained by NRLC, prove that Senator Obama has for the past four years blatantly misrepresented his actions on the Illinois Born-Alive Infants Protection bill. These facts should give pause to those who have unskeptically accepted Obama's claim that the Illinois BAIPA bills that he opposed in 2001 and 2002, which were modeled on the original federal BAIPA, were crafted to attack Roe v. Wade. Documents obtained by NRLC now demonstrate conclusively that Obama's entire defense is based on a brazen factual misrepresentation. The documents prove that in March 2003, state Senator Obama, then the chairman of the Illinois state Senate Health and Human Services Committee, presided over a committee meeting in which the "neutrality clause" (copied verbatim from the federal bill) was added to the state BAIPA, with Obama voting in support of adding the revision. Yet, immediately afterwards, Obama led the committee Democrats in voting against the amended bill, and it was killed, 6-4. Because so many people thought my 890 was fraudulent and claimed it wasn't "truly perfect" because of the bumper rail trick, I video'ed a "truly perfect" rendition. The camera battery died on the last frame before the final score came up, but you see all the pins fall down and it does show that "91 pins" fell down. And fantastically enough, youtube's transcoding unsync'ed the audio, and clipped off a second or so from the end, so the already-short run just got shorter.
