This film was so amazing once upon a time. It had everything. Saw it again a couple of weeks back and was surprised to fid it had aged real well. It certainly does have a multitude of clichés, quite a bit more than any film can contain. That's what makes it so special and what makes it such fun to watch. My original VHS is a pain to watch, looking forward to the DVD. Try to ignore the silly blurbs they added and the fugly new logo. The third track of the amazing Animal Nitrate single (the third released from the Suede debut album), released on September 14, 1992. I remember the time vividly, ended up using it for the intro of a school staging of Danny and the Deep, Blue Sea by John Patrick Shanley. Britpop started with music such as this. There were quite a few bands riding that wave of creativity at the time, and Brett Anderson was an equal part of that.

This was the soundtrack of M*A*S*H, both the film and the tv-series. The music was written by Johnny Mandel and the lyrics by Mike Altman, son of Robert Altman the director of the original film. Altman jr was only 14 at the time. The excellent cover here was made by Lady & Bird, a one-album duo consisting of french (and I think israeli?) singer/songwriter Keren Ann http://www.kerenann.com and Bardi Johannsson of Bang Gang http://www.banggang.net (he's from Iceland). Their other music is very nice, but I have a special affection for this album. Maybe it could be described as a dark fable where two characters decide to make themselves seen by jumping off a bridge (if just seen as the surface of the story). In short: find it, listen to it.

This is from the soundtrack to Betty Blue 37.2° le Matin, written by Gabriel Yared. It's the very last track on the album but, as I recall it, the very first we hear in the film. Name of the track is Maudits Manèges. It proved to be very hard to get hold of, why I decided to share it here. The last moments of Betty Blue 37.2° le Matin by Jean-Jacques Beineix. Back in 1986 (and through to 1989) this was the best film, so very right for its time. Why her moods? I know my own answer but leave for you to make up your own. Beatrice Dalle and Jean-Hugues Anglade (spelling?) both make this a memorable experience. Back in the day I think that all of us boys (and most of the girls) watching this fell in love with Betty a little bit. And the men and the women too, I bet...
