1st Stop of the Freeride World Tour!
Mammoth Mountain in California is the home town of legendary snowboarder Steve Klassen -- 5-time winner of the Verbier Xtreme. Steve is also responsible for the contest here guaranteeing a world class event for riders, public and media on the gruelling McGee Mountain.
This is the first time a Freeride contest is held on the McGee, located about 10 km south of the resort Mammoth Mountain. It actually was the site of the first fixed lift in the area in the 1930's. There are still some of the old pieces visible of that old lift. About 40 years ago the ski area was moved to the present location. McGee is not extremely steep like the Bec des Rosses in Verbier, but is long with its 1000 vertical metres. It has a natural quarterpipe which runs about half the length of the mountain.
